Rashtrapati Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam visited Sudan from 20-22 October
2003, the first visit by a President of India in 28 years. Shri Arun
Shourie, Minister of Disinvestment and Communications & Information
Technology, Members of Parliament Smt. Sarla Maheshwari, Smt. Margaret
Alva and Shri Suresh Prabhu and senior officers accompanied him.

President Kalam held discussions with Sudan’s President Omar Hassan Ahmad
Al-Bashir. He addressed the National Assembly of Sudan on 21 O ctober 2003
and spoke to the students and staff of the University of Khartoum on
'Education and National Development'. Several agreements were signed
including Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement, Bilateral Investment
Promotion and Protection Agreement, Memorandum of Understanding on
Cooperation in Communications and Information Technology. Dr. Kalam
announced a concessional Line of Credit of US $ 50 million to Sudan and a
grant of medicines for US $ 50,000 for the flood victims in Kassala.
